The Archives of Phryne

Editor: Stuart Palmer · Last update: 12 February 2007

In search of weapons and secrets to defeat the Mechanoids, the Daleks attack the hidden planet of Phryne, which holds the secrets of a hundred worlds. Penetrating its invisible shield, they land on the planet and begin to destroy. However, the Phrynians hold all the secrets in their heads – nothing is written down – and they are determined that they will die before they reveal those secrets to the Daleks.

Part One

The Daleks set off in search of weapons to help them defeat the Mechanoids. Searcher One becomes suspicious of a solitary moon hanging in space, and further investigation by the Black Dalek reveals it is part of a hidden solar system.

Part Two

The hidden planet is called Phryne. Saf becomes alarmed when the Daleks land on their moon and runs to tell the Controller. The Daleks meanwhile are building a machine to penetrate the invisible shield. The Controller learns of this by listening in to Dalek transmissions and orders the launch of a space squadron to deal with the menace.

Part Three

The Daleks activate their vibrator machine, but their plan is disrupted when the squadron is detected. They destroy all bar one of the attacking ships.

Part Four

The surviving ship crashes down onto the Dalek base on the moon, wiping it out. However, the Black Dalek’s ship escapes and penetrates the invisibility shield.

Part Five

The Phrynians attempt to stop the Dalek ship from landing by attacking it with actinic rays. But the Daleks counterattack. Nothing can stop them landing now.

Part Six

The Phrynian ground defences are no match for the Daleks, and soon a Dalek is eyestalk to face with the Controller. The Dalek orders the Phrynians to surrender or they will all die now.

Part Seven

The Controller reveals that all their knowledge is kept in their heads, and they will never reveal it to the Daleks. Despite threats, the Controller is adamant. In the end, he leaps to his death rather than surrender. The other Phrynians take this as a sign: they will never give in to the Daleks.
