The Doctor returns – series 1 contains the Dalek episodes Dalek, Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways.

A return to the screens for Doctor Who and a return to form for the Daleks – never have they looked so good and acted so bad.

From the episode Dalek, where the Doctor and Rose encounter the last surviving Dalek from the Time War, we knew the Daleks were back where they should be. Powerful, mean, scheming, evil and manipulative – we watch the lone Dalek trick Rose into touching him so he can regenerate – and proceed to kill just about everything in sight.

Later in the series, we see some Daleks have survived the Time War and have been rebuilding the Dalek race from the bodies of dead Earth people. Finally, we see a huge Dalek invasion – with Rose stepping in just in time to save the Doctor, and then he does the same for her. The trip of a lifetime.

Christopher Eccleston plays the ninth Doctor with considerable gusto and Nicholas Briggs gives us the Daleks as we’ve never seen them before – but always imagined they could be.
