An excellent Web site, by Paul Holder, dedicated to the work of the late great Frank Bellamy, who was one of the greatest illustrators ever.

Frank Bellamy (21 May 1917 – 5 July 1976) was a British comic artist, best known for his work on the Eagle comic, for which he illustrated Heros the Spartan and Fraser of Africa. He also reworked its flagship Dan Dare strip. He drew the Thunderbirds comic strip in a dramatic two-page format for the weekly comic TV Century 21. He later drew the newpaper strip Garth for the Daily Mirror.

His work was innovative in its graphic effects and sophisticated use of colour, and in the dynamic manner in which it broke out of the then-traditional grid system.

Frank Bellamy drew several Doctor Who illustrations, most notably for the Radio Times, including several of the Daleks – which we have on display in our gallery of Dalek illustrations. Although his Dalek and Doctor Who illustrations were a minor part of his overall work, we would encourage anyone to seek our the rest of his amazing illustrations, regardless of subject.
