Daleks invade Bash Street

Saturday, February 10, 2007

Yes, that’s the kind of headline which makes you do a double-take. The Daleks are set to appear in The Beano, invading what is still possibly the UK’s most riotous school.

This week sees the publication of the new BeanoMax, which is the first new comic from Scottish firm DC Thomson in around twenty years. BeanoMax is a new monthly spin-off comic aimed at nine-thirteen year-olds.

The first BeanoMax, due on Thursday 15 February, is a Comic Relief special, which features a whole host of TV stars – including Doctor Who and the Daleks – who invade Bash Street. Those who have always thought that the Daleks were invincible must concede that they may have finally met their match.

When a Dalek arrives in Bash Street, the kids want it to help them to do their homework – after all, if you’ve seen the episode ‘Dalek’, you know that even a single Dalek is a genius. We all know that Daleks don’t tend to be the most helpful of creatures, so it’s not long before the kids are threatened with extermination.

The comic also features TV chef Jamie Oliver (taking over the school canteen; that can’t possibly go well), Jonathan Ross, Mc Fly and Rowan Atkinson.
