Daleks versus Aladdin in amazing 3D Bogglevision

09 July 2007

The Daleks are set to appear in a second stage production this year, the well-known pantomime Aladdin.

As well as the Dalek Masterplan, there’s a second chance to see the Daleks on stage year – at Newcastle upon Tyne’s Theatre Royal, for the production of the popular pantomime Aladdin.

Produced in ‘3D Bogglevision’, whatever that is, the pantomime runs from Monday 3 December 2007 to Saturday 19 January 2008. It stars ‘Newcastle’s own’ Chris Hayward as Mrs Twankey, Craig Conway as Abanazar and Kathryn Rooney as Princess Jasmine – with Danny Adams as the titular Aladdin and Faye Tozer as the 3D genie.

Quite how the Daleks are worked into the plot of Aladdin is something of a mystery although the show’s leaflet says that they threaten to exterminate Aladdin’s plans to marry Jasmine.

The show’s leaflet also says that this is the Daleks’ first appearance in a pantomime and we feel sure they are right (update: we have since had an e-mail to say that a Dalek appeared in an amateur production by the Greenock Players in 2006).

You can’t make this stuff up. Thanks to Paul Richmond for alerting us to this.
