Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry attracts 67 Daleks to world record attempt

12 September 2007

The Museum of Science and Industry’s recent attempt to set the record for the most number of Daleks in the same place at the same time reached a total of 67 Daleks.

The Daleks which attended were many and varied, from high-quality fan-build Daleks from both the new series and the classic series, to more ‘improvised’ and fun costumes. You can see photos of the day on this Flickr Web site.

The designer of the Dalek, Raymond Cusick, attended the event in Manchester – forty years after he originally designed the Dalek for the second story of the then new science fiction series Doctor Who.

The Museum has been running a ‘Doctor Who Up Close’ exhibition in Manchester for several months, which has so far attracted around 150,000 visitors. The exhibition is due to close in November 2007.

The Museum is awaiting the official decision as to whether the record attempt was successful. We’ll keep you posted.
