Former Dalek operator Michael Summerton dies

One of the original Dalek operators from the classic series of Doctor Who has died at the age of 65.

Summerton was born in Rochdale on 22 December 1943. He appeared in three episodes of the first Dalek story (the ambush, the escape and the survivors), having got the part shortly after leaving Birmingham Repertory Theatre, where he trained as an actor.

In his early career he shared an agent with David Bowie, Diana Dors and Richard O’Sullivan.

He became an agent himself in the 1970s, representing people such as Noele Gordon and Bonnie Langford.

Summerton died on 16 June 2009 following his battle with cancer.
