The Dalek prop is one with something of a chequered history, and is clearly recognisable in some of the episodes as its skirt is made from two Dalek front halves, so it not as flat at the back.
This ‘oddball’ Dalek, as it’s often referred to, was used as the Dalek Supreme in ‘Planet of the Daleks’ and was later blown up, modified, cut-and-shut, you-name-it-treated-disrespectfully, until it ended up doing a stint at the Doctor Who exhibition in Blackpool and even Tussauds, along with a waxwork of Tom Baker.
(You can find out more about this Dalek’s history at the excellent Dalek 6388 website.)
It was bought by a marketing/advertising company in 2005 for £35,000 to display in the company’s reception. However, the company has now been liquidated and the Dalek is up for sale.
If your pocket are deep enough in these troubled times, you can bid for it on the on-line auction at bidspotter.com – and, if you live in the area, you can view it at the Auction Centre, Stockport, Cheshire from March 31. Since that’s just down the road from Dalek Links’ headquarters, we intended to get down there and give it a pat.
Bidding takes place between March 31 and April 2.
